Turmeric has historically been utilised in India to treat ailments of the skin, upper respiratory tract, joints, and digestive system. Today, turmeric is marketed as a nutritional supplement for a wide range of ailments, such as depression, liver illness, allergies, respiratory infections, arthritis, digestive issues, and many others.
In Thailand, fresh turmeric rhizomes are used widely in many dishes, in particular in the southern Thai cuisine, such as yellow curry and turmeric soup. Turmeric is used in a hot drink called "turmeric latte" or "golden milk" that is made with milk, frequently coconut milk.
